A fire has broken out in a block of flats in Battersea,south west London,sending a massive plume of smoke into the air.

The entire top floor of a four-story building on Maysoule Road has been engulfed by flames.

The blaze,which started just before 7.10pm,has smashed through the roof of the building,with the singed rafters now visible.

Three people have been treated by paramedics,one of whom was taken to hospital.

It was like smog.’Firefighters could be seen in one video banging on the doors of people’s homes to evacuate them,footage on social media shows.A livestream of the fire on TikTok showed smoke rising from the building,partly glowing orange from the fire,well into the night.The fire brigade received 33 phone calls about the blaze (Picture: London Fire Brigade)Ambulance service was called to the block,near the junction of Hope Street and Benham Close,just before 7.30pm.The service said: ‘We sent resources including ambulance crews,an incident response officer and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team.‘This incident is ongoing and we are working alongside our emergency service partners at the scene.’The fire brigade said the cause of the fire is unknown.
