Libya’s Menfi, UN Chief Guterres discuss path to elections and stability

Libya’s Presidential Council head,Mohammed Menfi,held talks with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the UN’s Third Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Avaza,Turkmenistan.

According to a statement released on Tuesday,August 5,by the Presidential Council’s media office,discussions focused on the latest political and security developments in Libya,with both parties exploring strategies to advance the stalled political process,and pave the way for national elections that would secure long-term stability.

Menfi’s participation in the high-level conference,held under UN auspices,underscores Libya’s ongoing efforts to engage the international community in support of its democratic transition.

The gathering has drawn over a thousand global participants—including heads of state,ministers,and development experts—the aim being to promote regional cooperation,enhance trade and logistics infrastructure,and foster inclusive and equitable development,particularly in countries grappling with prolonged instability.
