Moroccan human rights activist Amina Bouayach was named among the 50 most inspiring African women for 2025 by Pourelle.info and 50FemmesInspirent.org. She is the only woman from North Africa featured in this year’s Pan-African list as one of the most prominent voices in human rights in Africa and an active figure in the network of African women leaders.
Amina Bouayach,President of Morocco’s National Human Rights Council (CNDH),has been included in *Pour Elle*’s 2025 list of the “50 Inspiring African Women” alongside nine other inspiring African female activists and was selected for her dedication to defending human rights,equality,and social justice throughout her career in Morocco.
The African media platform *Pour Elle* focuses on issues affecting women and girls across the continent. This year’s honoree list marks the 2025 International Day of African Women.
The platform’s mission is to celebrate outstanding African women who are making a lasting impact on their communities and on the continent as a whole.
This year’s list features women from 20 African countries as well as members of the African diaspora abroad. The awardees have demonstrated the growing influence of female leadership in building a more just and inclusive future for Africa.
The theme for this year,“African Women Driving Justice and Reparations for an Inclusive Africa,” pays tribute to women who are leading change in politics,economy,business,activism,culture,arts,and society.
Bouayach’s Achievements and Legacy
Bouayach has dedicated her life to defending human rights,human dignity,and fundamental freedoms at the national,regional,African,and international levels.
In March 2025,King Mohammed VI reappointed her as President of Morocco’s CNDH,marking the continuation of her leadership role,which began in December 2018.
Today,she stands as one of the most important human rights voices in Africa and plays an active role in the network of African women leaders.
This latest recognition adds to a series of significant achievements by the Moroccan human rights activist in 2025.
In March,the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) unanimously elected her as President,further establishing her as a leading voice in the global human rights community.
Earlier in the year,Bouayach received the 2025 Mediterranean Foundation Prize for her contributions to promoting human rights both in Morocco and internationally.
Before leading the CNDH,Bouayach served as Vice President of the International Federation for Human Rights and as President of the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights. Her work has earned her international recognition,including appointments to advisory roles with the United Nations and the African Union. She is also one of the founding members of the AWLN,where she continues to advocate for inclusive governance and women’s leadership across the continent.
