After the Royal Palace’s announcement of Morocco’s successful joint bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 alongside Spain and Portugal, the country fast-tracked major infrastructure upgrades. This includes accelerated development of roads, railways, airports, hospitals, stadiums, and hotels—marking a transformative moment for Morocco’s urban and regional planning.
Stadiums
The country is building a 115k-seat stadium in Benslimane, near Casablanca, for a total cost estimated at 500 million dollars.
Benslimane stadium will be ready in December 2027. Marrakech,Agadir and Fez stadiums will undergo an upgrade after the African Cup of Nations in December 2025.
By September 2025,Morocco will complete two major stadiums: the Complexe Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, described by FIFA President Gianni Infantino,as a “jewel of world football” and the Grand Stade de Tanger. Meanwhile, two additional venues in Rabat—Al Barid and Moulay El Hassan stadiums—are set to open in August. These developments will expand Morocco’s sports infrastructure ahead of major international tournaments.
These four new stadiums will join five existing venues: Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca,Grand Stade de Marrakech,Adrar Stadium in Agadir, and Grand Stade de Fès. Together, the nine stadiums, ranging from 45,000 to 72,000 seats, form a robust network for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Many of these venues have already hosted top-tier continental competitions, underscoring their readiness and international standards.
Airports and railways
As Morocco prepares to receive 26 million tourists by 2030. The country is expanding capacity at its major airports.
In 2024,Morocco welcomed 17.4 million visitors,a record, that put the country on top of the African tourism podium.
As the Kingdom increases air routes, while signing deals with major carriers, expanding airports was a necessity.
Morocco will invest 1.55 billion dollars to increase total passenger capacity at Mohammed V airport in Casablanca to 35 million by 2029,ahead of the World Cup.
The airports authority ONDA plans to increase capacity in Casablanca to 35 million travelers by 2029.
The second largest airport in the country,Marrakech,is already operating above full capacity. The capacity is planned to be expanded to 9.3 million by 2028,according to ONDA.
Agadir airport’s capacity will grow from 2.5 million to 7 million, while Tangier will also be expanded from 2 million to 7 million all in 2028.
Fez and Rabat, each with 2 million capacity, will be enlarged to handle 5 million passengers each by 2028 respectively.
Besides air traffic,Morocco is preparing its railways to host the World Cup connecting Marrakech to the high-speed train.
It is also in the process of acquiring 7000 urban buses and upgrading its hotel infrastructure.
