New arrest in cold case of mum killed 30 years ago walking home from shops

A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a woman more than 30 years ago.

Thirty-one year old Shona Stevens was discovered injured in the Bourtreehill Park area of Irvine,North Ayrshire on Thursday,10 November,1994.

The mum-of-one later died in hospital from her injuries three days later.

A man aged 67 has now been arrested in connection with her death.

My mum deserves justice. My gran,who is now 90,deserves justice. So do I.’Shona was last seen walking down a street near her home after visiting shops at around 1.30pm.She was later found on a footpath to the back of Alder Green with severe wounds.Police issued a fresh appeal for Stevens ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death last year (Picture: Police Scotland/PA Wire)Police Scotland had issued a fresh appeal for information relating to her case ahead of the 30th anniversary of her death last year.Officials had also appealed for help explaining a novelty key ring found at the crime scene,which they believed could have belonged to the attacker.DCI Stuart Gillies,who is the senior investigating officer on the case,said: ‘I would like to thank the members of the local community who assisted us in our enquiries. I am grateful for their information and input which contributed to our investigation.’
