Libya’s Minister of Oil and Gas,Khalifa Abdulsadiq, has reiterated the country’s openness to strategic partnerships, particularly with European partners,as part of efforts to establish a sustainable energy business model. In a meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Libya on July 21,Nicola Orlando,Abdulsadiq emphasised that the green transition is central to Libya’s Energy Vision 2030–2035,aligning with the EU’s clean energy agenda. He further stressed the need to involve financial institutions in supporting this transition, especially through investments in human capital development and job creation across manufacturing, petrochemicals, and renewable energy sectors.
Abdulsadiq highlighted Libya’s dedication to environmental responsibility by reaffirming the ministry’s “zero gas flaring” policy for all future energy projects. He also noted the ongoing “Energy Generation” awareness campaign, which seeks to foster a culture of sustainability and support Libya’s long-term vision for an inclusive energy transition. These initiatives aim to position Libya not only as a traditional energy exporter but also as a proactive participant in global efforts toward decarbonisation and environmental stewardship.
Discussions between both parties also centred on enhancing bilateral cooperation, with a shared understanding of Libya’s pivotal role in ensuring regional energy security. Libya’s considerable natural gas reserves and established export infrastructure make it a critical player in Europe’s energy landscape. The upcoming Libya International Gas Forum, scheduled for December, was identified as a strategic opportunity to attract EU-backed investment into Libya’s gas sector and deepen collaboration in support of sustainable energy development.
