Cairo is currently hosting high-level delegations from Egypt,Qatar, and Israel for critical discussions focused on securing a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
According to Egypt’s Al-Qahera News, the tripartite talks address the urgent need for aid entry, patient evacuation, and the safe return of individuals stranded due to the ongoing conflict. These talks are part of Egypt’s broader diplomatic initiative aimed at de-escalating the prolonged war and mitigating its humanitarian toll, with sources indicating that notable progress has been achieved, particularly on provisions related to humanitarian access.
The discussions are expected to span two days and follow Monday’s meeting between Egypt’s intelligence chief Hassan Rashad and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Those talks, which also involved Palestinian and Israeli representatives, aimed to break the deadlock in ceasefire negotiations. Although indirect talks between Israel and Hamas recently resumed in Doha, disagreements remain—most notably over Israel’s intention to maintain a military presence in parts of Gaza and Hamas’s rejection of these terms. These sticking points have hindered the finalisation of a proposed 60-day ceasefire.
Despite growing international pressure,a comprehensive truce remains elusive as each side blames the other for stalling progress. Hamas has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately obstructing peace efforts, while Israeli officials have alleged that Hamas is refusing to compromise. As the conflict enters its 21st month, the humanitarian crisis deepens: Gaza’s Health Ministry reports over 57,000 Palestinians killed—mostly women and children—and more than 137,000 injured since October 2023. Egypt, with the support of Qatar and the United States, remains a key intermediary, determined to overcome political hurdles and ensure meaningful relief for the besieged population.
