Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism has unveiled a sweeping initiative to revitalise non-traditional tourism by spotlighting its vast desert landscapes and unique natural heritage.
Key attractions such as Al-Gara Cave and Umm Al-Sughair Oasis are now at the heart of new desert tourism routes, while popular one-day trips to the Siwa Oasis and nearby sites like Tebghagh and Bir Wahid have resumed in response to growing demand. According to Assistant Minister Samia Sami, this revival—realised through close coordination with stakeholders—saw 80 tourism companies organise 300 desert excursions for over 20,000 international visitors in the first half of 2025 alone.
To elevate the desert experience, the ministry has introduced a variety of immersive activities, including camel trekking, paramotor flights over the White Desert, birdwatching, and guided hikes. These offerings are underpinned by a strong emphasis on service quality and safety, with authorities ensuring secure and enriching journeys. Beyond cultural and environmental enrichment, the initiative is seen as a vital driver of economic growth and sustainability within Egypt’s tourism sector. Continued collaboration with local authorities and tour operators aims to remove logistical hurdles and support the long-term viability of this dynamic tourism segment.
