An elderly British tourist was dragged and mugged to the floor in a horrific incident in Majorca.
The frail 85-year-old was crept up on from behind before his bag containing a wallet was snatched by the criminal.
Footage of the incident shows the thief chasing his victim before pouncing.
After snatching the bag,he is shown fleeing the scene.
The incident happened on Wednesday morning in the town of Cala Millor on the Balearic Islands’ east coast.
Police officers were eventually able to identify and locate the thief,who was recognised by the victim.
Son Servera council said in a statement on Friday: ‘We strongly condemn the unfortunate events that occurred yesterday morning in the centre of Cala Millor,in which a young man robbed and assaulted an elderly person with the objective of stealing his belongings.
‘Thanks to a special operation which took place the whole of yesterday evening,the perpetrator was located and arrested,and was transferred to the police department,to be brought before the judicial service.
‘From the council we want to convey a message of reassurance to all our residents. We continue to work intensely to guarantee the security of our municipality.
‘We stand with the public and will spare no effort to make Cala Millor a safe place for everyone.’
Tourists,particularly those visiting popular holiday spots including Majorca,Ibiza and the Costa del Sol,are advised to keep all their valuables out of sight and only carry the cash they need.
