Morocco is busy working to modernize its agricultural sector and advance sustainable agriculture with the support of Hong Kong-based Jungnong Group,a subsidiary of China’s Agricultural Development Group.

Moroccan ministry of Agriculture and the Jungnong have agreed lately to set up $22 million joint venture focusing on high-tech and water-efficient farming systems adapted to climate change.

The venture will leverage advanced agtech tools to boost crop yields in semi-arid regions using drip irrigation systems optimizing water usage. It will also rehabilitate saline and alkaline soils for the cultivation of high-value and low-water crops such as olives, pomegranates, almonds, and figs.

A vocational training center will also be set up to enable Moroccan trainees to acquire precision agriculture skills and smart farming technologies.

This project, which aligns with Morocco’s Green Generation strategy, will help to build a climate-resilient and resource-efficient farming model that can be exported to other countries in the Mediterranean and Sahel to ensure their food security.
