The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) has arrested four top former Transnet executives linked to an allegedly corrupt multimillion-rand locomotive tender.
Two of the executives,Brian Molefe and Siyabonga Gama,surrendered themselves to the police on Monday morning and are appearing in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
Former Transnet CFO Anoj Singh and the parastatal’s former engineering chief executive Thamsanqa Jiyane have also been arrested and made their first appearance in court alongside Molefe and Gama.
The four men are facing charges of fraud,corruption,and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act and the Companies Act.

According to the NPA’s Investigative Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC),the matter relates to Transnet’s acquisition of the 1064 locomotives back in 2014,which were supposedly needed to meet a rail-freight revival.
However,the 1 064 locomotive project became embroiled in controversy,with allegations of corruption,irregular procurement processes,and inflated contract prices.
