Moroccan Akwa private group,a major player in energy and petroleum distribution, has launched a strategic oil storage project in Bargny-Sendou,approximately 30 km from Dakar,Senegal.

According to weekly news magazine “Jeune Afrique”,this project, which includes natural gas processing, could reshape energy distribution in West Africa. It will also enhance Senegal’s energy infrastructure by supporting the country’s growing oil and gas sector as the country has joined the club of oil-producing countries with its Sangomar field.

The presence of Akwa Group in Senegal will enable it to strengthen its footprint in West Africa, leveraging its expertise in petroleum and gas distribution. This aligns with its broader expansion strategy in francophone Africa,as seen in its prior activities in countries like Côte d’Ivoire and Cameroon.

The 2025 ranking of the 500 African Business Champions, published by Jeune Afrique, showed 54 Moroccan companies, including 39 from the private sector, with a combined revenue of $55.9 billion.

This reflects the growing influence of Moroccan businesses, driven by steady growth and an effective pan-African expansion strategy. Moroccan OCP group,Royal Air Maroc,Moroccan banks, and subsidiaries of Maroc Telecom are among the top performers and very popular in Africa.

Several other Moroccan enterprises are also active in the building and various industrial, commercial, and economic sectors across the continent, strengthening the Kingdom’s regional influence.
