LafargeHolcim Maroc Afrique (LHMA),through its subsidiary Cimenteries du Cameroun (Cimencam),has inaugurated lately an integrated clinker and cement plant in Figuil,located in Cameroon’s North Region.
The inauguration ceremony,chaired by Cameroon’s Prime Minister Joseph Dion Nguté,was marked by the presence of several local government officials and LHMA representatives.
An investment of $100 million has been injected in this plant expected to produce 500,000 tons of cement annually and 1,000 tons of clinker daily. The facility,first of its kind in Cameroon,will help reduce the country’s reliance on costly clinker imports.
The plant aims to supply cement to Cameroon’s North,Adamaoua,and Far North regions and targets export markets,particularly Chad suffering from cement shortages and high prices due to logistical challenges and low production.
LHMA chairman Saïd Elhadi said this new industrial facility,part of South-South cooperation,is a strategic milestone for the sustainable development of Cameroon and evidence of LHMA firm commitment to Cameroon’s industrial emergence.
This landmark project is a driver of economic and social development,confirming the momentum of cooperation Moroccan-Cameroonian cooperation. It shows LHMA determination to contribute to the creation of jobs,the development of local resources and the modernization of the building materials industry in West and Central Africa.
