South Korean tech giant Naver which has announced plans to build a massive AI-focused data center in Morocco, said the project will be carried out in partnership with Nvidia,Taqa Morocco,Nexus Core Systems, and Lloyds Capital.
The announcement was made during the VivaTech 2025 conference in Paris.
The project, which will be powered entirely by renewable energy,is set to become one of the largest AI data centers in the Europe,Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. With a planned capacity of 500 megawatts, the facility will serve as a sovereign AI infrastructure hub, offering advanced cloud and AI services.
The first phase of the project is scheduled to be launched in Q4 2025,featuring a 40 MW supercomputing infrastructure equipped with Nvidia’s latest Blackwell GPUs. The full-scale deployment will eventually reach 500 MW.
Morocco was chosen for its strategic location, just 15 kilometers from Europe, and its robust fiber-optic submarine cable connectivity, making it an ideal gateway for data traffic across continents.
The data center will be operated by Naver Cloud, and Lloyds Capital, and will offer a full suite of AI applications and services with localized data processing and storage.
This initiative marks a significant expansion of Naver’s global cloud and AI ambitions, extending its reach beyond Asia and the Middle East into Europe and Africa.
Morocco hosts currently 23 data centers, becoming the leading host country in Africa. According to experts, data center location decisions are driven by a complex interplay of factors, including proximity to business hubs, regional infrastructure capabilities, and long-term operational sustainability.
