Morocco’s Top Police Chief leads delegation to 22nd meeting of heads of intelligence and security services in MENA region


Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST),Abdellatif Hammouchi,paid on May 6-7,a working visit to Vienna at the head of a security delegation representing the DGSN-DGST hub.

This visit is part of the DGSN-DGST delegation’s participation in the 22nd meeting of heads of intelligence and security services in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region,in addition to Turkey and Pakistan,organized by the UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team at the Vienna International Center,the DGSN-DGST said in a press release.

Hammouchi’s participation in this multilateral security forum reflects Morocco’s commitment to bolstering regional and international security cooperation,as well as its firm commitment to sharing its expertise and pioneering experience in counter-terrorism and the fight against transnational crime with friendly and allied countries,as well as all international partners,the press release explained.

Discussions at the meeting focused on the evolution of command structures within Daesh and Al Qaeda,particularly in light of the loss of traditional strongholds and the emergence of new regional branches and sections,as well as a general assessment of the threats and risks posed by these organizations at regional and international level in the short,medium and long terms,according to the press release.

The discussions also analyzed new trends in financial resources,weapons,and logistical equipment adopted by Daesh and Al Qaeda,including mechanisms for concealing and encrypting funds. They also looked at the latest developments in propaganda,media strategy and organizational communication within these terrorist organizations.

In parallel with his participation in multilateral cooperation debates,Hammouchi held bilateral talks with security officials from Qatar,Türkiye,Saudi Arabia,Pakistan,and the United Arab Emirates to strengthen counterterrorism cooperation and intelligence sharing.

The discussions focused on joint efforts to address transnational crime and strengthen regional stability.

The United Nations Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team hosted the event at the Vienna International Center.
