Senegal’s Sangomar oil field, located 100 kilometers off the coast of Dakar, achieved “record sales” of nearly 4 million barrels of oil in April,Energy,Petroleum and Mining Minister Birame Souleye Diop announced.

“I would like to announce exclusively that we have made a record sale of 3.8 million barrels from the Sangomar oil field during April,” Diop stated during an information-sharing workshop with journalists on extractive sector governance in Mbour, western Senegal,on Monday.

The workshop aimed to update media professionals on the progress of oil, gas, and mining projects and provide information on flagship programs in the energy and mining sectors.

Regarding the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, which Senegal shares with Mauritania,Diop said that “the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was fully loaded on April 15,2025,with a total export volume of 163,259 cubic meters of LNG.”

“This is a decisive step for Senegal and Mauritania,” the minister emphasized, adding that “commissioning of installations continues as production ramps up.”

The GTA gas field, which began operations on December 31,is operated by BP in partnership with American company Kosmos Energy, the Senegal Petroleum Company, and the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company.

For the Gadiaga gas project,Diop revealed that “in the first quarter of 2025,a total volume of 548,078 normal cubic meters (Nm³) of natural gas was commercialized,” noting that “monthly production for April stood at 219,809 Nm³.”

These developments mark significant milestones in Senegal’s emergence as an energy producer, with both oil and gas production now contributing to the nation’s economy as multiple projects move from development to commercial operation phases.
